The Disadvantages of Organisations Using Biometric Devices.

Despite the benefits biometric devices bring to an organisation, it also has costs.
  • For industries that deal with chemicals, the employees' fingerprints are affected by the chemicals. Therefore, it will not be ideal to implement the usage of fingerprint recognition in these organisations.
  • The biometric system is very expensive to try and implement and it may not be all firms that will be able to afford it to protect the data they have.
  • With the eye recognition security system it can be ineffective over time as people with serious heatlh such as diabetes may have their eyes changing. With voice authentication, as we grow older, when we have a flu or cold our voice changes, or in a noisy environment it is not effective. So it cannot be used in every organisation.
  • A biometric device that captures the iris of an individual may be very difficult to use as the iris can be covered by eyelashes, eyelids and even the images reflected from the cornea.
  • It can also be a health hazard specifically for the fingerprint authentication system or the vein system. This is because there sensors will be touched by many people which will increase the risk of health problems.
  • People are also worried about the privacy concerns of criminal implications.
